This week, 100 students from Maleny High School will join 30,000 other school leavers who will complete year 12.
Principal Paul Tarbuck said if statistics were true and if this group reflected the same trends as the whole of Queensland, then of this 100, the following short term destinations might be expected: 36 would be enrolled in a university course degree; 27 would attend a vocational education and training course (including VET Certificates I-IV apprenticeships and traineeships); 12 would be working full time; 11 working part-time; five would be seeking work; two would not be studying and not in the labour force and seven would defer from the tertiary offer to do something “different”, such as travelling or taking up an overseas offer of working to save for further studies or other plans.
“Maleny high students, of course, being unique individuals, may not parallel this data exactly and it is important for each one of them to plan and follow a pathway that brings the best opportunities for personal accomplishment and future fulfilment,” Mr Tarbuck said.
School leavers hand badges over
Maleny High School announced the appointment of it’s school captains for next year at a recent presentations evening. To signify the 20th anniversary of the school, the student leaders of 1987, Bruce Ferriday and Lois White (nee Lois Fleiter), presented the badges to students Maedi Prichard and Anna Wells.
Seven students nominated for the leadership positions. Outgoing captains Tim Martin and Meisha Lowe represented the school for the last time at a Remembrance Day service function at Maleny RSL.
