Jump on board new bus service
Written by Administrator

The first passengers are expected to climb abroad the Blackall Range’s new Hinterland Connect bus service at Maleny this Saturday morning at 7.45.    The new service, which will travel to Nambour and return, will link Maleny to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, Montville and Mapleton.

The early service from Cook Park in Maple Street will be followed by other services at 10.45am, 1.25pm, with the last service to Nambour leaving at 4.25pm.    The last service returning from Nambour will depart at 5.45pm, arriving back in Maleny at 6.26pm.  The 37km trip to Nambour will take one hour.

In Maleny there is a set down stop at the library in Coral Street.  From Monday to Friday, the first service will leave Maleny at 7am, while the last return service to Maleny will leave Nambour at 5.10pm.

There is also a limited weekend service from Landsborough rail station to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, enabling tourists to link up with the Maleny-Nambour service.  Both range councillors – Dick Newman for Caloundra Council and Greg Rogerson for Maroochy Council – encouraged hinterland residents to use the service.

“It’s on trial for six months, and it’s future depends on how well people us it,” said Mr Rogerson.  “So it really is a matter of ‘use it or lose it’,” he said.

Mr Newman said where possible, it would be a hail and ride service.    “ But people need to go to an appropriate section of the road where there is a provision for the bus to pull over without endangering other traffic,” he said.
He also encouraged people to have the exact fare ready for the driver.    The minimum fare is a single section for concessions of $1.20 (STAS student passes not accepted).    The full adult single fare from Maleny to Nambour is $3.60.
