The first indication of which
direction the Caloundra City Council will take in the Maleny Community
Precinct debate following its community consultation process, will be
known next Thursday, November 22, when the full council meets.
After receiving 2500 public feedback forms, councillors and council staff have been analysing the submissions in how they relate to the council’s preferred option, which includes an 18hole golf course. The full council meeting, which will be open to the public, is expected to attract large contingents from the two main precinct proponents, the Malpan Group, dominated be Maleny Golf Club members, and the Obi Obi Parklands group – to hear the next chapter in the long running process.
“We certainly appreciate the [patience of the Maleny community and the valuable input they have provided,” Mayor Don Aldous said.
Mr Aldous said the information from the submissions would be considered in the report, which will address council’s draft structure plan for the site, potential variations to the draft, or possible alternative options.
“ This is definitely the avenue to achieving the best possible outcomes for the site and for community,” he said. A council spokesman said the November 22 meeting should show the basic direction in which the council proposes to head. “ I would expect the report to include the nuts and bolts of the various aspects that have been proposed, but Maleny should have a clearer idea of the direction that the project will head in.”
