IT’S been 13 years since the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre starting holding youth activities under the RSL Hall.
After several moves they are now based at the old Butter Factory, but in two years time a new facility will be built in Maleny’s township courtesy of $1.5 million from the State Government.
The funding will provide a much needed facility for young people and families in Maleny for social support services, employment training, enhancing educational opportunities (including a home for the Flexi School), developing arts & creativity, and recreational activities.
The new facility will finally give young people a place to call their own and this will enrich the wider community. It will be an exciting place of interaction between young and old, where caring services will be provided, and together people will create innovative ideas and enterprises. The need for the facility is based on the Maleny CYCAD proposal (Centre for Youth, Community & Arts Development) that was undertaken in 2003.
The Neighbourhood Centre has always worked well with other groups who seek to enhance social justice outcomes in Maleny. We are proud that the State Government has recognised the work of our organisation in Maleny and we see this project as a great opportunity to bring groups together in a purposeful way to build a facility that will meet the current and future needs of young people and families in our district.
If you would like to be part of this exciting journey please contact the Neighbourhood Centre on 5499 9345 and come on board.
