The Hinterland now has a direct voice in Federal Cabinet with Member for Longman Mal Bough's recent promotion to Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.

| Mal Brough ... the new Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
| Elected to Federal Parliament in 1996, the former army officer has previously held the positions of Minister for Employment Services, Minister assisting the Minister for Defence and Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer.
Mr Brough, a father of three teenage children, is aware of the things that are important to families and is confident that the local area will benefit from having a voice in Federal Cabinet.
"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and I won't have to look further than this area to find examples of the issues that all Australians are facing," Mr Brough said.
"I know and respect that the locals have put me here and they can be assured that I will continue to listen to their concerns and take action on their behalf."
During his 10 years representing the people of Longman in Federal Parliament, Mr Brough has worked closely with the local community to improve services and opportunities. Instrumental in obtaining Caboolture's QUT Community Campus and the Family Care After-Hours Medical Service,
Mr Brough works closely with local schools to develop and encourage leadership skills in our young people and with sporting heroes to motivate and engage young people who are at risk of dropping out of school or are involved with anti-social behaviour.
As the new Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Mr Brough is committed to achieving real outcomes for Indigenous Australians and will be working on improving health and educational opportunities in Aboriginal communities.
