Local ambulance committee needs you to help equip paramedics to save lives

IF you've ever wanted to help save someone's life, here's your chance.   The Maleny Local Ambulance Committee's AGM will be held from 7pm August 17 at the Maleny Ambulance Station in Bean Street opposite the Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

The Maleny LAC has been a driving force behind making Maleny's ambulance unit one of the best equipped in the state. It's that equipment that helps save lives.     It's a very rewarding volunteer job,  said committee chairman Jim Carseldine.    It's a way of giving back to the community at a crucial level.    The LAC is specifically focused on the provision of ambulance services to the Maleny community.

Ambulance officer Peter Griffey agreed:  "The
LAC has provided us with the equipment to provide a world class service,"  he said. "For example, they've purchased mannequins and are constantly upgrading our library.    They've provided data projectors, the laptop, the Toughbooks and the defibrillator at Maleny Supa IGA.

Most of the equipment in the ambulance
has been bought by the LAC. We've got traction splints, vacuum mattresses, pulse oximeters and defibrillators.

Peter said the Maleny paramedics now have
two Toughbooks thanks to the LAC.   The LAC worked with the State government to assist with the funding of a second Electronic Ambulance Report Form.

"It's valued at $8000,"  said Jim. "I don't think
people understand the importance of the work we do.    I think a lot of people don?t even know we exist.    We're providing the facilities for the paramedics to be able to do their work effectively and efficiently."   Peter said the Local Ambulance Committee provided an interface between the community and the Queensland Ambulance Service.

"Because we're such a small community
problems are identified and rectified rapidly.   That's because of the close relationship between the ambulance committee and the Maleny Ambulance Staff."   Anybody interested in attending the AGM and contributing to the LAC should phone Jim Carseldine 5494 3272 for organisational purposes.

Did you know that
there is a life-saving defibrillator located at Maleny Supa IGA.    Selected staff are trained at Local Ambulance Committee expense to ensure there's always someone in town who has the competency and skills to use the defibrillator in case of an emergency.
