TIME is running out for people interested in having their say on how Caloundra City Council will manage growth and development to 2026 and beyond.
The community consultation period for the Caloundra City draft Local Growth Management Strategy (LGMS) finishes tomorrow, Friday, December 8.
Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said the LGMS would provide a plan to create and accommodate 25,000 new jobs, substantially improve public transport, identify areas for ecological rehabilitation and introduce state of the art water conservation and quality measures – the planning this City will need to cater for the 70,000 people expected to settle here over the next 20 years.
“Preparation of the Local Growth Management Strategy is a requirement of the South East Queensland Regional Plan which was released by the State Government last year,” Cr Aldous said.
“Our Strategy must address the need to cater for a booming local population while holding on to our vision – and that of our community – for Caloundra City’s future.
“But community feedback on the draft document is the key to planning the future of our City, so make sure you get involved and have your say.”
Division One Cr Dick Newman agreed: “I would urge all residents to have their say on our future. It only needs a couple of minutes of your time to have your say on line, or by completing a feedback form at the Maleny Library. Tell Council what you want.”
Council will review all feedback and comments received before adopting the Local Growth Management Strategy for Caloundra City by mid 2007. The document will need to be signed off by the State Government before becoming attached to the South East Queensland Regional Plan.
Residents are invited to get involved by visiting displays at local libraries, Council’s Customer Service Centre or on line at www.caloundra.qld.gov.au/lgms.
