In
what Maleny's Division One Councillor Dick Newman describes as a "first
for the City", one Maleny citizen has seen her request for a vegetation
order granted by Caloundra City Council.
The vegetation order, applied for by Pamela Butler of Centenary Drive, ensures that the large remnant forest vegetation on her property will be protected, after CCC concluded that the clearing of the vegetation would detrimentally impact on the aesthetic, historic and environmental values of the community.
"I was delighted that the first protection order in the city was from Maleny and the decision to approve this was unanimous from council," Cr Newman told TRN. "Any landholders who wish to preserve vegetation on their land can write to the CEO at council to see whether protection can be given."
Cr Newman added that residents may have been looking for the trees along Palm Street to be the first to be protected, but the application for those trees was made by a third party which slows the process as opposed to the application being made by the landowner.
