THE Blackall Range Care Group held a well attended AGM last Tuesday.
In attendance were long time supporter Peter Wellington MP, Maroochy Mayor Joe Natoli and Councillor Greg Rogerson, as well as the committee, patrons, staff and volunteers.
Answering an application from the group for funding for an extension and renovation for overnight respite for carers, government has responded generously and the group awaits building approval.
Peter Wellington represented the group to Premier Beattie who has approved a special grant of $50,000. Cr Natoli and Cr Rogerson have each pledged $20,000, with Caloundra City Council Councillor Dick Newman also pledging $20,000 to the project.
Along with contributions from the group, they will be asking the Federal Government to contribute $137,000 to complete the funding. If successful, building will commence February next year. In his annual report, President Andrew Melville thanked the 27 staff members for “working very hard and performing tasks well beyond the call of duty”.
Recognising the efforts of a dedicated band of volunteers, he said: “It is very easy to say, ‘What would we do without them?’, but the cold hard fact is that without this great band of volunteers who are part of the Blackall Range community we would not be able to provide services to our clients in such an efficient manner”.
The volunteers assist at the Care Cottage with transports for clients and delivering Meals on Wheels.
“Over the last year, the management committee, our manager, the staff and a wonderful band of volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure the frail aged residents and younger persons with a disability and their carers, who reside on the Blackall Range, are able to benefit from the wide range of services provided by the care group.”
The president also acknowledged manager Tricia Rowe and the magnificent job she has done in managing the group.
