Lyris is an Honours Graduate in Science, who is currently doing a PhD at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She is studying the behaviour of potentially disease causing bacteria called Aeromonas. The Zonta Club's panel of members, who had the difficult task of judging a number of excellent applications for the scholarship, considered Lyris's to be the most commendable. President of the Zonta Club of Blackall Range Gillian Allen presented the award during a delicious dinner at Lyle's of Montville. After the presentation, Lyris went on to describe her research project in more detail and was able to do it in such a way that made a complex subject very interesting and understandable. The Club members felt that the award had certainly gone to a very talented and capable woman. The Scholarship is available annually and is publicised in The Range News in August to September.
