Glasshouse Rotary Club is joining forces with fellow clubs in the district to help school children in the Solomons. Trevor Taylor of Glasshouse Rotary said Maleny, Caloundra, Kawana and Woombye-Sunrise Clubs were helping Glasshouse raise $20,000 for the trip next January-February. Rotary International will match that sum. The money will be spent on much needed infrastructure and supplies for a school in the Solomons.
Two teams of members will travel to Ngari in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. They will be staying at Gizo and fitting the local school with a toilet block, a 54,000 litre water tank and a library, and will be taking a container to carry all the gear. Trevor said he was given an indication of how remote the Solomons were while researching the trip.
I went into a travel agency the other day and I said I wanted brochures on the Solomon Islands and the girl said what are you talking about no-one goes to the Solomons except divers and Rotarians. I said well that's lucky because I'm a Rotarian. Trevor said the people of the Solomons were happily self sufficient but needed help with education and health.

Ten
Rotarians will work there for a fortnight and then the next 10 will
take their place, Trevor said. We're all paying our own expenses.
