A Range local is setting up a new initiative in Maleny in an attempt to
recultivate the art of knitting, a skill which is being fast eroded in
these times of industrialisation and massmanufactured synthetic
clothing.
Anne Buff has set up a weekly gathering where interested parties are invited to Monicaz on Maple Street at 2pm for a fun afternoon of knitting, chatting and coffee in the restaurant?s comfortable upstairs lounge.
?Knitting goes way back but in today?s modern society it?s becoming a lost art,? said Anne. ?Plus synthetics aren?t really as warm as wool and it?s nice to have the feeling of satisfaction when you make something for yourself or as a gift for others anyway.?
She said the weekly meetings were open to anybody, with nothing set in concrete apart from convening at a regular venue and time. The meetings should prove to be an excellent place to exchange ideas, skills and patterns. They should also be a valuable place for those wanting to learn, with many friendly pairs of hands to help navigate you through the knit.
So why not dust off your needles and head down one week. It could be a chance to meet some new faces, or at least have a laugh at your friend as they fret after dropping yet another stitch!
