The Mooloolah community will be celebrating their public hall's 100th
birthday on Saturday September 3 with festivities in the hall and
village green promising to set the town alive. There is no date
recorded of when the hall was built, but newspaper articles in 1904
suggest it was to be built in 1905.
The hall was officially opened with a dance, something the Mooloolah Public Hall became renowned for in the region. Mr and Mrs Tolson were the first to break-in the dance floor. Thomas Hall donated the land to the community, with the whole community banding together to help with the building. All work was voluntary and this volunteer spirit continues today.

Mooloolah resident Joan Harris was the last trustee of the hall before it was incorporated in 1993. Mrs Harris said the Mooloolah Public Hall was known as the greatest dance floor from Brisbane to Gympie, earning its place as the most popular dance venue.
"It was made of crows ash and that was in 1922. Around 1989 we had the floor renewed and they had silky ash that came from Fraser Island. Some of the floor boards were worn so thin [from the dances], but the locals who took the old floor boards were able to use them for their verandah. People came from Eudlo, Palmwoods, Landsborough, Beerwah, Maleny and of course Mooloolah for the dances.
Celebrate September 3
The whole town is getting into the celebrations with static displays, bush poets, music and a Cobb & Co coach in the grounds.
The village will be turned into a carnival-like atmosphere with food, entertainment and markets. Different community groups who use the hall and school groups will also have displays.
Staff from The Mooloolah Fire Station will be demonstrating the "Jaws of Life", with simulated car wrecks.
To finish the day off the traditional bush dance will be held in the hall from 7pm to 11pm, Bush Boogie will be providing the music. Cost is $115.00 with supper included.
Tickets for the bush dance are available on the night or phone 5494 7793 0r 5494 7748 to pre-book.
