Barung Landcare will say thanks to Maleny Supa IGA with a tree-plant dedicated to the supermarket. "The
IGA has provided cash or in-kind support for many Barung activities
including the Maleny Wood Expo, our AGM tree-plants, our Landcare Week
barbecues and many other smaller but equally important events," said
Barung's Mim Coulstock.
The centenary seems an appropriate time to say a big and lasting thankyou to Rob and Samantha and the IGA. Mim said the best way Barung could do this was via a living, breathing, lasting legacy.
"IGA Connection" will be a tree-plant linking the last remnant rainforest at Maleny Showgrounds with the Obi Creek. Barung has been wanting to undertake this as a project for many years.
"Barung will be asking all community groups who have received assistance from the IGA over the years to make a donation to cover the cost of trees, stakes, mulch and maintenance," said Mim. Barung will also be asking local residents who have benefited from the IGA?s generosity to donate $10 to cover the cost of a tree, stake, mulch and some maintenance.
"This must be almost everyone in Maleny," said Mim. All donors will have their names recorded on permanent plaques to be erected around the site, as a reminder of Rob and Samantha's generosity and community spirit, for future generations to appreciate.

"Please pick up a donation form from the Maple St Co-op, the IGA or the Barung Office. And please tell all of your friends about this community initiative," said Mim. Once Barung has raised sufficient funds, they will host a community IGA Connection tree-plant to make the dream a reality.
The IGA Connection will provide a lasting thankyou to Rob and Samantha and the IGA. It will also create an essential linkage to help preserve the viability of this isolated historic remnant, and improve the quality of the water entering Obi Creek.
"It will also restore the banks of the creek from a weedinfested rubbish heap to a beautiful rainforest that will help beautify the Maleny Showgrounds," said Mim.
