After
a one-year absence and despite the best efforts of the elements to wash
away our spirits and fireworks, Maleny's main thoroughfare was buzzing
last Friday night with the advent of the Maleny Street Carnival.

| Members of the Obi Abata Big Band entertained the audience in the Community Centre.
| Sponsored by Maleny Supa IGA, Advanced Alarms, Maleny Amcal Pharmacy and Fentiman Dentistry, the event saw eight local community groups and entertainers unite to give the township a chance to eat, drink and enjoy the festive season together.
And this year was the first year this Maleny tradition, which sees Maple Street closed for the evening, was run by the Chamber of Commerce.
It had received multiple requests to get the event back up and running over the year.
And that they did, even though the rapidly rising rainwater tanks signalled much of the planned alfresco entertainment had to be hastily reorganised into the Maleny Community Centre!
"One of the first things I'd like to do is thank the public because it was really successful," Maleny Chamber of Commerce chairman Rod Thamm said.
"They were a great crowd and all well behaved." "It's a great result for all of us considering the weather, we all had a good time and still got the fireworks off the ground!"
Rod, who confessed he spent much of the night running around making sure it was all happening, said Maleny could definitely expect this event to again become a regular annual feature on the community calendar.
"We've already had requests from people for it to be held next year," he said. "Everybody wants us to do it again.?"
Meantime, I must confess to having spent much of the evening charging my glass in the UpFront Club while ducking in and out to avoid the showers!
It all goes to prove this place loves to carnival and loves the rain Merry Christmas Maleny.
Here's wishing you all a healthy and prosperous New Year!
