Biodynamics for horticulture and market gardening

All Producers, Horticulturalists and Land Managers are encouraged to register for an innovative and practical workshop being presented by leading Biodynamic educators, Hamish Mackay and Cheryl Kemp.   It will be farm-based and hosted by local farmers Les & Marji Nicholls at Sandy Creek Organic Farm, Beerwah, Queensland.

Biodynamic Preparations work in stimulating the optimal microbial and fungal activity in the soil.   They also work in balancing the atmosphere, an area that is often forgotten in agriculture.

Once the major elements are balanced, following Albrecht type soil testing, application of the Biodynamic preparations can bring in and support many changes in the soil and crop.   "Sandy Creek Organic Farm is in the third year of organic certification and will be fully certified next year,"  said Les & Marji Nicholls.

"We follow biodynamic practices using the recommended biodynamic preparations with the aid of Brian Keats Astro Calendar.   Our intention is to produce the best possible food, while improving the environment.   Since commencing we find that we are on an upward path towards our goal."

"Farmers notice major improvements in soil structure, building of humus, deeper rooting and large rooting structures, increased water holding capacity and healthy strong disease resistant crops,"  said Biodynamic Education Officer, Cheryl Kemp.

Participants will learn how the biodynamic preparations work with the soil food web and how to bring fertility and balance to the soil and the atmosphere.    Participants will have practical experience in making on farm fertility mixtures, such as fermented Manure Concentrate and liquid seaweed fertilisers.   There are also demonstrations on stirring and application of the Biodynamic Preparations.   At the conclusion of the workshop participants will be able to commence putting these methods into practice and have a good idea of conversion to the Organic and Biodynamic standards for certification.

The workshop will run over two days from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday & Thursday 9 & 10 November, 2005. The cost of the two-day workshop is $550pp.    For further information and bookings please contact Biodynamic Agriculture Australia Office on 02 6655 0566 or bdoffice@biodynamics.net.au.
