The Dreaming, like most festivals these days, has depended to a large extent on a volunteer workforce to have made it the success it has become.
This is Australia’s international indigenous festival which is held annuallyon the site of the famed Woodford Folk Festival. And over the long weekend in June it will be time to celebrate the fourth such festival at the magical Woodford setting.
Organisers have assembled a magnificent programme of entertainment that includes a wide range of diverse acts encompassing music, dance, theatre, ceremony, film, forums and film plus a small galaxy of speakers. All this is presented over four days within the special and friendly ambience of this custom made festival site which caters for season campers and day trippers alike.
But to help make it all happen, to provide the essential services and to make it an enjoyable experience for all festivalgoers, is where you could come in. This festival which takes place from Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9 inclusive, is still looking for volunteers to fill a range of positions. It also needs volunteers in the week preceding the festival and the week after the festival to help with the set-up and take-down.
There are still plenty of jobs available – from bar cashiers to bar attendants, drivers to stage hands, gate crew to garbology crew, gallery attendants to general store hands, camping ground staff to operations centre helpers, street lighting crew to traffic directors, and toilet cleaners (intergalactic S-bend warriors) to plumbers and electricians. This is just a sample of the jobs that make a festival go round and there are many more up for grabs
Signing up for the Dreaming’s behind the scenes dream team of talent gets you a ticket into one of Australia’s most significant and amazing festivals. The deal is that you contribute 15 hours of your time over the festival period to help make it happen.
Most festival volunteers say they love the experience of being immersed in a wonderful event, making new friends and even learning new skills.
It’s simply magical, said media centre volunteer Mark Bates who has been helping out at all The Dreamings.
There’s such a great feeling of togetherness – everybody contributing to a celebration that is special to Australia. It’s an experience I wouldn’t miss for quids.
To join The Dreaming’s workforce dream team, don’t waste a moment. Go to the festival website at www.thedreamingfestival.com and follow the prompts. You can also call the festival at (07) 5496 1066.
