A Brisbane party of five set
out on Sunday 22nd at about 10am to climb Mount Tibrogargan. Leader
of the party was Jonathan Lowe who was accompanied by his two children,
James, 4 and Justin, 2 , his 9 year old nephew and the boy’s uncle.
They did not return from the mountain until after dark.
The journey was a bit too much for the younger members as about 100 m from the bottom they refused to continues on to the bottom.
Glasshouse SES unit leader Graeme Cheal received a call about 5p.m. Mr Cheal said the last part of the decent was probably the most difficult, with the track being “fairly steep” in parts.
He said the children were unharmed by their adventure.
This rescue has been one of a number of recent time.
Sunshine Coast Police Supt Hanbidge said, “These most recent incidents would suggest that people are not using common sense and don’t familiarise themselves with the lay of the land before they undertake these walks.”
It was only last January that Brisbane climber, Annabel Choy fell 150m to her death from this mountain. It is believed Annabel was the fifth person to die from a climbing-related accident on Mount Tibrogargan since 1962.
It is certainly a difficult climb for climbers so young.
