Well known local Beryl Newton, 94 years young and a retired school teacher is on the “war path”. A few weeks ago someone did the unthinkable - they destroyed her letter box - not once but twice.
The first time was on the night of Saturday June 7th. She had it repaired by Barry Burgum only to have it destroyed again. The new letter box is shared with Beryl’s neighbour.
The sad thing about this letter box is that it was built by her late husband, Bill from bricks from their house construction so the letter box was very sentimental to Beryl.
Some would have you believe that boredom of our young people causes this but that is no excuse for wanton vandalism.
Letterboxes have a strange facination for vandals in the Maley area as there is regularly a spate of damaged leterboxes.
If I know anything I know not to unpset Beryl.
